Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the financial profitability of onion and potato in the group Mudaka in Kabare to detect the culture that is more profitable to improve the income of producers. To do this, a survey was conducted among peasant producers to harvest all information needed to calculate the profitability of these two crops per ha.

Onion cultivation was the most practiced over the potato potato occupies the largest area compared at onion is 0.522065 0.14213 ha against However, the cost of production of potato was significantly higher ($ 998.34 per ha) and corresponded to twice that required to produce onion ($ 576.63 per ha) following the acquisition of seeds, pesticides, ct. ; Regarding the financial rate of return, it is clear from this study that the potato was more profitable (105.78%) compared to the onion (52.95%) despite high production costs.
